Ecoprinted sketchbook covers

I’ve been busy exploring the leaves in our new garden and that means botanical printing on leather . I use my little scrappy bits of leather for sampling and then I like to make small projects from them. I enjoy the challenge of piecing together the printed leather with upholstery offcuts to make sketchbook covers.

Here’s three I made this afternoon. They’re all unique because no two prints are ever the same…that’s the beauty of botanical printing.

I was playing with different closure ideas and wanted something quite natural so I popped out to the garden and raided the pruning pile. I cut a few birch twigs up into small pieces and drilled a couple of holes in each…and there;s a lovely, natural birch toggle.

I think this one is my favourite . Ilove the silver birch print and the contrasting trim on the spine.

I source my kangaroo leather from an Australian tannery so I know that it’s processed in an environmentally responsible way.

I can’t resist using every scrap so I’ll often add in a little pocket or pen holder.

It was a very satisfying afternoons work . What did you do with your day?
