A Nature Walk and Sketch

Postcard No 41: Life by the River

The Huon River is quite wide esturine when it reaches our house but further out past Geeveston there’s a lovely little spot where one of it’s tributaries runs gently through eucalyptus forest with moss and green ferns along it’s banks. It’s a nice place to take a short nature walk and do a quick sketch.

I like the diagonal thrust of this eucalypt leaning out over the river. All the tree trunks on the oposite bank make a strong vertical contrast.

The fresh greens of the moss and ferns against the warmth of the tannin rich water makes another good contrast.

A relaxing , cool and pleasant break after visiting some of the big trees in the area.

Acrylic gouache and a 1cm flat brush on a tan coloured sketchbook.
