Neutrals and Blues: Pastel Sketch by the Huon River

Postcard No 53: Life by the River

The sky at the head of the river has been glorious today. Brooding clouds against soft light. The hills silhouetted against the sky and the whole shebang reflecting artistically in the calm water. it’s been changing all day but this is the moment I captured.

I used one of my favourite Jack Richeson Atmospheric Neutrals soft pastel sets for this postcard. I love the neutrals in this set and they work so well with the black paper in my pastel sketchbook. It was missing a really dark blue so I dipped into the Jack Richeson Blues set as well.

I could always paint a coloured ground on the black sketchbook pages when I want a different background…that’s something I might try in the future.
