Riverside Flowers: Postcard No 96

Life by the River

I was a little early picking my friend up for church yesterday so stopped at Huonville to check out the riverside there.

I pulled up the car on the west side of the bridge, grabbed my phone and headed to the water’s edge. There was a lovely view up river , lots of distance and a good variety of foliage. The only drawback was that the flowers were over so there were no splashes of colour to relieve the green and blue.

No self respecting artist would let the lack of actual flowers interfere with their postcard so I added in some bright orange and yellow blooms.

I threw in a bit of violet as well to contrast with the yellows.

… and a little hint of a pathway.

I’ve pinched one of my small stay wet palettes from the studio to keep my acrylic gouache paints workable and it’s made such a difference. No more dried up and wasted paint. I just pop on the lid and store it in the fridge between postcards.

I use Turner Acryl Gouache in varying size tubes, They come in 20 or 40 mls standard. The sets usually have 10ml tubes and are a good way to try out the colours. You can then add extra colours or replace favourites with larger tubes.

One thing to note when using acrylic gouache is don’t mix the brands. Different brands have different properties and you can be quite disappointed if you mix them. My advice is find one you like and stick with it.
