Pinks : Postcard No 111

Life by the River

It was this time last year we first looked at our new home. It was a sunny day and the drive down was beautiful. there were flowers along the roadside, birds in the air and boats out on the river.

The pink flowers are out again now. I don’t know what they’re called but i will find out. They’re dotted along the roadside where they’ve escaped from people’s gardens and we have some outside our fence.

I was sitting at the dinner table looking at some in a vase that my husband had placed there while I was in the studio working on a commission.

In nature tall stems emerge from a broadleafedflax like plant with the flowers popping out all up the stems to form a pointy cone . You can tell I’m not a garden writer – I don’t know the botanical terms- but that’s how I would describe them.

They have a totally different look when cropped as they are here. I just zoomed in on a small section in the vase so you entirely lose the spike effect.

I think art is often like that …it makes you look at the world in a different way…and that’s a good thing.
