Life by the River
There are so many birds to see on the river that I’m constantly changing my mind about my favourite! Fortunately I’m not restricted to one …in fact I can have as many as I like.
Today’s favourite is the cormorant. They can be found all up and down the river. A few months ago they were flying over our house regularly in flocks of 50 or more, landing on the river then taking off again. They seem to have settled down to much smaller groups now though.

This pied cormorant was perching on a gnarly old stump that almost matched the greys in their sunstruck feathers.
I threw in some green reeds and grasses to create a background for the white of chest and head and suggested the sunny day with some highlights on the wings.
This little postcard is a reminder of all the perching cormorants I see daily, some are resting after fishing expeditions and others are doing their laundry…wings outspread to dry in the sunshine.
Tomorrow I’ll have another favourite no doubt!
