Life by the River
It’s been another lovely summers day today and the boats have been up and down the river all day. We don’t have a boat and as an onlooker it’s tempting to think that it’s an idyllic life being a boatie. Living here I’ve seen the work that goes into keeping a boat in good order so I know those people on the water have truely earned their pleasures.

Here’s one of the locals giving his little boat a good clean. It’s probably gifts from the seagulls he’s scrubbing off!
The seagulls love to roost on boats in Port Huon. I notice quite a few of the yachts have netting covering them to keep the birds off. It takes a lot of time and effort to put up and then dismantle to go off for a sail.
A neighbour was telling me that one season when his boat wasn’t netted the seagulls built a nest and rowing out to the boat was a real hazard.
They had eggs in the nest so dive bombed him all the way.
Maybe I’m better off just admiring the boats from my studio and garden…seems like a lot of work…especially for someone who’se prone to seasickness 🙂
