I shared a snippet of a gumleaf painting I was working on at the end of January. It was based on all the fallen leaves I pass on my daily walk. I was stopping so often to check out a specially red one or a bright yellow skinny one , or a lovely curl of bark that I decided I must paint them and I must paint them large!
So I did!
I took a lot of reference photos, I gathered up a few special leaves and I prepped a metre square canvas and got to work.
This painting took me a long time…much longer than my usual. We became good friends over February as I worked on the layers and when it was finally finished I was pretty happy that I’d captured the feeling of looking down at my feet as I walked through those beautiful leaves.
Here it is. Finished and already off to a new home.

I’m glad I got to spend February with this painting and I’m also glad to be back to some smaller subjects like this little pastel that is only 10 x 10 cms.
