Postcard No 42: Life by the River

Here’s another cormorant . I couldn’t resist because he’s sitting on one of my favourite old jetty stumps!
Unlike Postcard No 40 this one is acrylic gouache and I think you can see why I favour this over watercolour. I’m so impatient that I can’t wait for the watercolour to dry and that is definitely not a problem with gouache.
What’s the difference between gouache and acrylic gouache? Gouache dries just as quickly and like watercolours can be revived again with water. Once acrylic gouache has dried that’s it. This quality makes it very easy to work over a piece in layers almost immediately, which suits my painting style and my impatient nature.
