Postcard No 47: Life by the River

This time of year is just a riot of gold! The wattles are out and the river banks and paddocks are dotted with bright splashes of yellows, lemons, golds and yellow greens.

Although there are over 1000 species of acacias ( commonly called wattles) in Australia only 21 are native to Tasmania along with several introduced species. Twenty is plenty! There is an abundance of these gloriously showy trees with their masses of tiny, yellow, fluffy, pompom, flower balls and they light up the end of winter showing us into spring and on through summer.

The view across the river on our morning Boardwalk is usually dominated by greens but right now the golden yellows of the wattles are reflecting beautifully.

They make a lovely contrast to the blue sky reflections and the white of the seagulls as they wheel overhead.

Such a happy colour!
