Boats and mist: Postcard No 56

I’m sticking with watercolour today out of a sheer determination to improve in that medium!

Another misty morning and boat. Perhaps it’s more about the reeds on the bank though.

There are a lot of reedbeds and sedge wetlands along the riverside and I love the warm rusts and ochres they bring to the riverscape pallette.

The dark brown flowers on these reeds add a lot of texture and interest to the landscape . The contrast against their lighter coloured stems also helps add tonal variation.

I picked up the warm colours again in the stern of the boat , the buouy and a hint of trees on the far shore. It all ran because I was too impatient to wait for the water to dry first as usual.

I’ve got some Daniel Smith tube watercolours arriving tomorrow so maybe I’ll do better using the tubes instead of pans…we all hope so!

We’ve seen a lot of it lately so I’m getting better at suggesting mist 🙂
