A Wee White Boat: Postcard No 83

Life by the River

Another of my favourite subjects today. Not neccessarily my most skillfully executed subject but one I do love. I’m constantly on the look out for little boats drawn up on the bank because I like the way they nestle into the grass and reeds with the river as a backdrop.

It was the light shining so brightly on this little white rowing boat that caught my attention. It was like a spotlight had been trained on it.

I included one of the many boats in the background to help the composition flow a little better. I didn’t want the jetty and marina boats distracting from the simplicity of the single white boat.

Give yourself permission to leave stuff out to make your art say what you want it to say.

    Hi Lindy,

What a great idea to leave something out to highlight the beautiful white boat. A lesson for all paintings.

    Great advice, thank you.

It was much easier leaving out some of the background clutter.

A great lesson – you don’t need to include everything. Often …….. less is more.

And sometimes it’s hard to make myself leave stuff out!

Oh I hear you. Not putting that one more brush stroke on the canvas, tends to be my downfall at times.
