Big Bend River View : Postcard No 94

Life by the River

Even though I grew up in the Huon Valley there are lots of places that I know well but don’t have a name for. Now I’m back I’m getting quite adept at making up place names!

On my way to Glen Huon recently I noticed some beautiful reflections at the Big Bend ( yes…that;s one of my made up names). On the way home I stopped for a small postcard. I was tempted by the cattle and their reflections but in the end I couldn’t resist a portrait view up the river with some bright yellow wild flowers in the foreground.

There’s a lovely interplay of bright light and darker shadows in the foilage. The blue of the sky and the river break up all those greens and suggest movement.

I love a portrait format for landscapes. I’m not sure I can pinpoint why but I naturally gravitate to these “slices” of the bigger vista.

Here I think it works very well. A landscape format would give me way too much green but here there’s a good balance of water to greenery.

There are probably a good few postcards to come from this little stretch of the river…maybe even a landscape format!

Thank you. I realisefd afterwards that my yellows had merged into the yellow greens. 🙂
