Life by the River
It’s a beautiful time of year and as I drive up and down the river I like to observe what flowers are currently in full bloom in everyone’s gardens. At the moment it’s the snowball trees full of showy white flower heads absolutely covering the trees. I think it’s a bumper year for this lovely flower.
There are also lots of rhododendrons, purples, reds, whites and pinks , the shrubs are really loaded with flowers and create an amazing blaze of colour.
These are the large trees that I can easily see from the road but behind the fences, hedges and front gates I know there is another world of perrenials, annuals and multi coloured variety.

This afternoon i stopped by my sister’s home and had a little tour of her garden. She has a lovely garden, relaxed and interesting. Lots of pots sitting amongst the planted garden, blending in and containing some colourful specimens.
The star today was a huge peony she has sitting in an old milk can. I’ve attempted a sketch but it really does not do it justice.
For starters this is not the right colour..It’s actually a striking purple/magenta but I couldn’t replicate it so went for a red version.
Also I didn’t quite manage to show how large it is…two of my petite hand spans would be about right. They’re in proportion to the milk can I think but it doesn’t look like a large milk can because the flowers look more like they’re in a medium vase.
I probably should have put in the background with some smaller containers and their normal sized peonies so there was a point of reference for the scale!
