Rainy Day: Postcard No122

Life by the River

I’ve had a play day in the studio experimenting with some abstract landscapes. There’s been a lot of layering and I’ve used some of my favourite colours. At the end of the session I decided to do a very quick postcard just using whatever came to hand and not worrying about the outcome. Very freeing to just not be bothered how something turns out!

I grabbed some indigo pigmented ink and drew in an outline of the hills and a few streaks in the sky and swirls in the water. Then I took a brush and moved the ink around a little. next came some purple and blue oil pastels and a scrape of sienna and ochre acrylic. I popped in a bit of white with the tip of a palette knife and there were a couple of sails.

There’s a little hint of magenta which I love. I also like that rainy sky and those patterns in the river which I often see.

These are the two abstracts I’m working on….
