A Fresh Approach: Postcard No 126

Life by the River

As with a lot of things in life overthinking can lead to confusion and overworking a subject. A while ago I did a lovely little gouache track postcard ( well I loved it anyway) and then some time later I did an upscaled version in pastel. I wanted to try a different approach and I was fairly happy with it until I did this little 15 minute demo in class today!

There’s a real freshness to this because I had no time to overthink or overwork it. Sure there are problem areas and it’s a little unfinished but it really captures the mood of sunlight and shadow and joy in the moment.

I prefer how I’ve left the vegetation so loose and suggested to my more polished version. I like the more scribbly approach .

interesting to compare the two but I really still like your original.version the best of the three. It just appeals to me more somehow.

I appreciate seeing the different versions, as well, but I love the first one. Thank you for sharing them.
