Life by the River
The reeds and sedges along the river provide a constant warm backdrop for all the other vegetation.
Flowers come and go with their splashy colour lasting from days to weeks and sometimes months. Trees change from new spring growth to autumn reds and oranges then winter greens. Bulrushes open up releasing their white fluff. Blackberries blossom, ripen and then change to autumn shades. Wattles put on a golden show, teatrees a snowy cloud and apples a burst of pale pink.
The reedbeds seem to stay a swathe of muted browns, ochres and tans no matter the season. Whilst I love this palette for it’s warm restraint I gave them a little extra zing of orange, purple and blue in today’s postcard.

This is a very small postcard…only 8x10cm.
I wanted to make the reeds the star so I punched up the contrast and added some extra colour.
Although my postcards are grounded in the natural environment there’s always room for a bit of imagination and artistic license.
