Life by the River
Out walking today I noticed how colourful this little stand of eucalyptus trunks were. Of course they weren’t quite this colourful but an artist has the perogative of ignoring local colour and expressing themselves however they like!

There’s something very appealing about peeling bark. It offers a lot of texture and glimpses of the paler new growth under the darker bark adds contrast.
I’m a big one for contrast, getting it into my paintings in as many ways as I can to up the impact.
Here I’ve ramped up the chroma, increased the value shifts and kept the tree trunks sharp and the background soft.
It’s only a small sketch but maybe worth upsizing to a larger canvas?
