Silver light: Postcard No 161

Life by the River

The light on the river yesterday morning was phenomenal! It was low tide and the morning sun was glinting off the wet sand creating a shimmering silver amongst the blue water and the brown reeds.

I knew I couldn’t capture it in a sketch with watercolours but I plan to have a try with pastels once my studio is back up and running. Instead I’ve done a little postcard of someone fishing off the jetty in the early morning. This is a scene I see often along the river and seemed like a good choice for such a lovely day as today has been.

I didn’t pay enough attention to the far bank and it’s sloping! I know the river is running downhill but this is a bit too much!

Also I had some lovely grasses in ( you’ll just have to take my word for that) and then I put in the figure and the grasses suddenly looked way too big.

That’s what happens sometimes when I paint from memory not real life or a photo or sketch.

A lot wrong with this postcard but tomorrow is another day!

But to me it looks great, though I understand how the painter sees what they don’t want to see!
